Dejan Srhoj:
An Evening of Dance Solos

dance miniatures, 2022

Three solos, three research processes and co-authorial journeys are revealed behind a name that evokes a performing form almost condemned to the past. Their common denominator and common thread is the choreographer and dancer Dejan Srhoj, who has invited artists to collaborate with him who - each from their own medium, poetics and aesthetics - open up new aspects of their own work through their joint research.

Choreographer Jan Rozman brings into dialogue with Dejan the generational difference and the engagement with the subject that gives birth to the animistic solo-duet; with Boštjan Perovšek, composer and sound-space designer, they build a live composition for the dancer and interactive floor; the explorer and dancer of multiple identities, DISKOlective, leads Dejan on a journey of questioning his ballet past, as Virgil led Dante through the most challenging stages of the Divine Comedy. The three journeys are set within an overarching journey: a music-dance-talk between Dejan and the musician and composer Bowrain - Tine Grgurevic.

An evening of dance solos is therefore a paradox of sorts, as it is essentially a constant exchange and a fruit of collaboration, both between the creators of this evening and with the audience. - Katarina Pejović
